Los Angeles-based photographer Sara Cozolino loves when she has the opportunity to combine her passion for photography with her love of nature and the environment. Through her participation on PhotoPhilanthropy, she was introduced to Blue Planet Network and is honored to play a role in highlighting their critical and meaningful efforts. Photographs serve to ensure people see and understand what is happening outside of their immediate world, which motivates them to assist in whatever way they are able.
In working with the Blue Planet Network, Sara anticipated assisting with coverage outside the U.S. She was surprised to see the need for photos in a community without access to clean drinking water within California, in her own back yard. Her trip to Seville, CA and surrounding areas was truly an eye-opening experience; the stories of the people she met and their strength to fight for access to clean water against incredible obstacles was inspiring and an impetus that each of us can always do more. Sara hopes that her photography on this assignment illuminates the issue for many more folks as the effort did so for her.
Sara dedicates herself to giving back and speaking out with what needs to be heard and seen. In addition to her work with Blue Planet Network, she volunteers extensively in animal rescue and welfare, environmental causes and human rights initiatives. Every week Sara dedicates an entire day to an urban animal shelter, to take professional photos of the animals, dramatically increasing their chances of adoption by capturing the unique and loving nature of each animal. She has also provided photography services to various other non-profits. Sara has conducted field conservation research in South Africa on a wildlife reserve to study predator/prey interactions, and traveled throughout mainland Europe, Scandinavia, Great Britain and Central America.
Sara has a broad range of work in her professional repertoire, including advertising, editorial and investigative journalism, portraits and headshots, red-carpet and credentialed celebrity events, pets and wildlife, and weddings. Her photos have be used in print and digital media by major publications around the world.
Sara has a degree in Photography from Santa Monica College, and in Geography and Environmental Studies from UCLA, with a focus on sustainability and climatology. Originally from Michigan, she now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their rescued dogs, who consistently remind her to check out every leaf, look at every rock, and be present.
